Teachers

Youth & Family Ministries

During our Sunday services, your children will find a safe and loving space to meet, feel comfortable and learn the principles of Unity from our volunteer teachers.

Our teachers would love to invite your children (and you) to join our family of youth classes on Sunday mornings. We also offer Nursery care for babies & toddlers (or any children more comfortable in that setting).

Our mission is to call forth the Divine that is expressing uniquely as your child. We guide each child to recognize their oneness with God while accepting and demonstrating the principles taught by Jesus. Children are taught Unity principles with lessons that include spiritual, creative and social activities. They experience the importance of God in their lives and how much God ALWAYS loves them.

Sarah Bruton has been attending Unity since 1993 when she was in High School. She believes in the Unity message and enjoys being with like-minded people. She finds it very interesting to hear how Unity interprets different Bible stories.

Mandy

Mandy Null has been attending Unity of Midlands since 2024. What drew her to Unity was the love that she felt when she first entered the church and continues to feel. She is grateful to be part of this spiritual community and to increase her involvement in the youth program at the church. Mandy says: "It has been a great way for me to learn and grow alongside the young members. It also allows me to contribute my knowledge that I've gained working with youth over the years in various settings, such as camps and school systems."

Outside of Unity, Mandy is a mental health therapist and co-runs a group practice with some wonderful women. She also enjoys yoga, journaling, reading, and spending time outside with her dog Frankie.

"Being part of Unity of Midlands has been a meaningful step in my spiritual journey, and I look forward to continuing to grow with this community!"

Heather Beckett has been joyfully serving in the youth program at Unity of the Midlands for over two years. She first connected with Unity in 2006 after a coworker recommended it while she was searching for a positive spiritual community for her family.

Her journey has taken her from Unity of the Blue Ridge in North Carolina to Kansas City, where her husband, Dan, became a Unity minister. He now serves at Unity of the Midlands and she and her family live in Columbia, SC.

Heather studies and practices Zen Buddhism and is currently enrolled in a Buddhist Chaplaincy program through the Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe, NM. With 27 years of experience as a registered nurse, she brings a compassionate spirit to all she does.

Janina

Janina ("Nina") Coleman has been a member of Unity of the Midlands since 2016.  She found the church after moving to the neighborhood in 2012. The word "metaphysical" on the church sign caught her eye, so she decided to check it out one Sunday a couple years later. She instantly loved the meditation part of service and the welcoming atmosphere.

Nina has served in many roles in the church, such as audio/visual ministry leader and serving on the Board of Trustees. Currently, she serves as administrative assistant and co-director of the Youth & Family Ministry. Her background in working with youth include her role as program director for a statewide transportation grant for middle/high school students, administrative services on a college campus, afterschool programs for elementary school students, and the Teacher Cadet program.

She is passionate about encouraging young people to tap into their "divine creativity" to manifest the many expressions of Spirit.

Being outdoors (especially near water), painting, reading, making "dessert candles" and writing poetry are favorite past times. Nina loves traveling and hanging out with her husband.

We are always looking for kids at heart to spend time with our youth. If you are interested in leading a craft, activity or class let us know!
